Rafa Castells & Alba Yruela interview

Carpaccio Magazine: Tell us something about you.

Alba: I’m from a little town called La Bisbal, where I lived and studied until I turn 18. I waited all my life to turn 18 to leave La Bisbal to go to Barcelona to study, meet people and interesting places. I studied a really short photo course and 2 years of Graphic Design. Although I love Barcelona I wanted to live the experience to move to England (London if I have to specify) to make a break of my Graphic Design studies with Rafa and other friends of mine.

Rafa: Hi! I’m Rafa Castells, I was born in Barcelona in May 89, I studied photography in Barcelona and I’m living now in south-east London with Alba.

Carpaccio Magazine: Alba, you have a project in your personal work section called “He” and you, Rafa, have one called “I’m in love with Alba Yruela”. We can see that you have an artistic relationship. Do you think you’ll do a project together in a future?

Alba & Rafa: Yes, we’re now in the middle of a project, we’ll post some things in our websites, but we don’t want to precipitate as we’d love to publish the project in book format.

Carpaccio Magazine: You’re living in London now. What are you doing there? What differences have you noticed between your city of origin and London?

Alba & Rafa: We’re trying to find our path, living new experiencies, learning english, looking for a job to get some money.
We’re also looking for a gallery to show some of our works with other emerging artists.

Carpaccio Magazine: Where do you find inspiration?

Alba: I suppose that I find inspiration culturizing myself visually. I try to discover photographers/illustrators every day to understand what I love of their works and what I don’t like of their works. This way I understand where I want to go and where I don’t want to go with my own work.

Rafa: hmmm, looking at other people’s work helps me a lot.

Carpaccio Magazine: What’s photography for you?

Alba: I consider photography is necessary for me. Even I’m not carrying the camera, I see a lot of places that first I see them as a photo and then as a place. I don’t know how to answer the question without seeming presumptuous, it’s a difficult question.

Rafa: Photography, for me, is a tool to express emotions/feelings.

Alba Yruela & Rafa Castells works and interview have been published in Issue #11: “Flowers must be born every instant”, and Rafa Castells works have been published in Issue #6.
