Interview with Marialamar, Puppe & Roseau, illustrators (Issue #8)

We published an interview with Marialamar, Puppe & Roseau in Issue #8: “The Pureness Issue”. We’ve translated it from spanish.

CM: Tell us something about you.

Puppe: My name is Valeria. I’m from Buenos Aires, Argentina and I study Graphic Design in UBA (Universidad de Buenos Aires)
Roseau: My real name is Catherine. I’m from Nantes, France. I live in Lorient, a little city in Bretagne, near the sea.
Marialamar: My name is María, I was born in Buenos Aires (1979). I’ve been living in Catalunya for seven years, in the city of Girona.

CM: Where do you get your inspiration?

Puppe: I’m influenced, in a positively way or not, by all the things around me, by what senses give me.
Roseau: I’m influenced by the feelings which  nature, animals, humans like stones, what I feel inside me, emotions, dreams, fears & nightmares give me.
Marialamar: .. people, and the way we relate between us and between the place in we live… and by  the beauty and cruelty of all of this.

CM: Which are your influences (or: Who are your favorite illustrators, artists…?)

Puppe: When I’m being asked for influences I always name artists whose work I love, but I really think I’m more influenced by things which I don’t know, things that show me another perspective.
Nowadays, I’m looking the work of Robert Irwin, Olafur Eliasson, Andy Goldsworthy, and…
Roseau: I’m amazed by the work of young people I find surfing the internet; it’s fascinating and challenging. I’ve loved several artists of different times, but I don’t use to look at their work: Paul Klee, Western and Midle Eastern miniatures of Middle Ages, Japanese prints, prehistoric paintings…
Marialamar: It’s difficult for me to list influences. Nowadays, I think we’re lucky, as we can surf the internet and have access to the work of a lot of artists… and I think this influences me in some way. There are several artists whose work have reached me at some moment in my life: Nicolás e Staël paintings, Mac Zimmermann drawings,..

CM: Are you planning any projects at the moment?

Puppe: A flickr friend of mine -who I haven’t met yet-, Polar, send me a proposal: convert one of my illustrtions into a photo. I’m really excited with the idea of finding another dimension of my work and seeing it reinterpreted by another person.
Roseau: I’d love to show more my drawings.
Marialamar: I’m going to keep on exploring and looking for places to show my work. For the first time, this January I’ll exhibit some of my works in the city where I live (Girona).

CM: How do you started drawing together? We think that’s a great idea.

Puppe: I like the idea of sharing… and illustration was an excuse to share. It’s a way to know someting about the Other. I wish we could do it in person.
Roseau: When Puppe proposed me to share an illustration, I was very excited, as I admire Puppe’s and Maria’s work. I really love the idea of “Niña Jardín” (“Garden Girl”). I wanted to know what we could do using 6 hands. It has been a great pleasure.
Marialamar: Puppe started everything. I recieved an e-mail from Puppe asking me to do an illustration together. I love her work and I was very excited with the idea. Then Roseaeu joined us and she brought the magic of her work. We really spent a great time doing this.
